ABOUT THE PARKWAY TO PARK FESTIVAL

Over the last three years, the Parkway Council in close partnership with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and the Office of Transportation and Infrastructure Systems has been working to create a multi-phase plan to transform the Benjamin Franklin Parkway into a great urban park for all Philadelphians.

In celebration of this forthcoming Parkway to Park plan, the Parkway Council is launching the summer-long Parkway to Park Festival. From June to September, this initiative will provide summer fun and relaxation for Philadelphians and visitors, while highlighting early actions of the Parkway to Park plan.

At the center of the Parkway to Park Festival is the return of The Oval, this year in an extended season from mid-June to mid-September. The Oval beer garden by Fairmount’s Libertee Grounds will transform the north half of Eakins Oval into a welcoming park space. Movie nights, cultural performances, wellness activities, family and community programs, special festival and market days, lawn games, and a mural by Mural Arts Philadelphia will additionally animate Eakins Oval over the summer months.

Complementing these activities, adjacent Maja Park will host Monday evening music programs, and, in July, the Association for Public Art’s second annual Art on the Parkway installation.

Cross-promoted partner programs round out the initiative, welcoming Philadelphians to explore the Parkway District’s full array of exciting outdoor activities and free events.

The Parkway Council extends deep thanks to Philadelphia Parks and Recreation for its partnership across all these efforts.

See you on the Parkway this summer!
