Behind Bar None: An Artist Talk by Nicolo Gentile

The Association for Public Art (aPA) in partnership with the Parkway Central Free Library presents an artist lecture and presentation by Philadelphia-based artist and educator Nicolo Gentile. Gentile’s Bar None was commissioned for aPA’s 2025 Art on the Parkway program, an annual juried open call currently in its second year. Join us to hear the artist speak about his first large-scale public artwork, and the archival explorations informing Bar None, including research from the Free Library’s collections, in dialogue with a brief screening of historic footage of the Parkway from Temple University Library’s Special Collections. Gentile’s public artwork reimagines the Parkway as a living archive shaped not by monuments, but by collective action through transforming steel barricades into a winding procession of memory and light with etched panels reflecting moments of protest, pride, and public gathering. Bar None is on view at Maja Park at 22nd Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway through October 26, 2025. The event will be preceded by a reception with light refreshments. Doors open at 5:30 and the presentation will begin at 6pm.

Support for this year's Art on the Parkway artist talk is provided by the Dina Wind Art Foundation.

Family Fun Day with Kith + Kin

Join Kith + Kin and friends for a family fun day at The Oval!

Kith + Kin will host interactive, community building, family programming for little ones and their families.

Programming starts with Ms. Mariah of Little Yoga Squad for a playful family yoga session filled with movement, music, and mindfulness. Designed for all ages and abilities, this 30-minute class invites families to stretch, breathe, and connect together through fun yoga poses and interactive games.

Then, children's storyteller Thembi Palmer will bring attendees on an interactive movement adventure that goes beyond a typical read-aloud. Her captivating story is guaranteed to get children—and adults—on their feet, discovering new ways to move as the words come to life. Prepare for an action-filled experience, from freezing in place to uncontrollable itching and joyful twirling, ensuring active engagement and memorable fun.

The afternoon will close with family favorite, Mister John’s music, who will create magical moments while boosting motor skills and language development. Through music, rhythm, and movement, infants and toddlers will experience and learn about self-expression, teamwork, sharing, and empathy.

Kith + Kin will be on the sidelines throughout, with a collaborative activity for all to enjoy.

All are welcome, though this program is most suited to infants and toddlers and their families.
